The silver tetradrachms typically featured a portrait of Alexander wearing the lion-skin headdress of Hercules on the obverse (front side) and Zeus seated on the reverse (back side). The reverse often included the inscription “ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ” (Of Alexander).
