A treasure hunter has found many pieces of jewelry on the Mont Blanc mountain believed to belong to passengers who crashed on an Air India flight at Europe’s highest mountain half a century ago.
This new discovery comes just a year after a young climber stumbled upon a metal box containing 100 diamonds, emeralds, rubies and sapphires worth more than $322,000.

“They were scattered around the Plateau des Pyramides area as if they had been placed there the day before,” Mr. Roche said. There are a lot of bracelets, necklaces, earrings, gold necklaces.” Like the previously unearthed gems, Mr. Roche believes that these jewelry items belonged to passengers on the Indian plane traveling from Mumbai to London – England that crashed in the Mont Blanc mountain. on January 24, 1966. About 117 people on the plane died in the accident at that time.
He said he would add these new treasures to his private collection. He said the jewelry was not as valuable as the gems found last summer and he had no intention of selling them.
Meanwhile, local experts expressed anger about treasure hunters flocking to the mountain to search. Arnaud Christmann, a rescue worker, warned that the treasure discoveries could lead to a “gold rush”. This person added that inexperienced climbers could be in danger when trying to find treasure on the glacier. “I ask everyone to respect this area,” he said.
