The timid cat with damaged eyes wandered the streets until she was noticed by compassionate people. She couldn’t believe that she could be loved so much.
Three years ago, a British photographer under the pseudonym turniptowers and his wife lost their beloved cat. To cope with the loss, they began searching for a new furry friend. While browsing shelter websites, the photographer’s wife, Lisa, came across photos of a special cat. Her story left the family deeply touched.
This cat was found on the streets of the town of Rexham in the United Kingdom. The cat was blind and her eyes were in poor condition, so both had to be removed. But she ended up in the caring hands of local shelter workers who took great care of her.
After seeing the story of the cat, the photographer’s family decided to take her in. They named her Gertrude, and her completely new life began. However, things were not easy from the start: “During the first year, Gertrude constantly stayed in the bedroom and hardly ever came out. We avoided loud noises and didn’t move anything so that she wouldn’t be scared and could settle down peacefully. Now, after some time, she walks around the house more calmly. She sometimes bumps into objects – mostly when she feels excited,” says the owner.
Gertrude is a sweet and affectionate creature. She loves to lie next to her owners and rub her face against them, which brings her comfort. She leads a fulfilling life despite her blindness – she goes for walks on a leash, frolics in the grass, and plays with other cats and toys. During walks, Gertrude loves to sniff everything and explore new things.
She even got used to the street noise: “To our surprise, the noise during walks doesn’t bother Gertrude – not even dog barking or loud sounds like construction tools. She loves to listen to different sounds while walking in the garden and hunting insects,” says the owner.
