Sarcofago degli sposi, Boston

Both sarcophagi lids, the first from 350-330 BC. in nephro, the second from 330-300 BC. in alabaster, they portray a married couple in an intimate everyday moment. The blankets are shaped and, with the folds, generate a decorative motif. Both found in the necropolis of Ponte Rotto, Viterbo. They are preserved in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. The man portrayed in the second sarcophagus is probably the son of the one portrayed in the first
