Malaysia is feverish because a treasure estimated to be worth billions of ringgit (1 ringgit = 0.31 USD) is hidden inside a cave in Pulau Nangka – a small island about 17 km off the coast of Malacca state.
It is believed that the above treasure includes a golden chest, a throne and royal clothes. Mr. Datuk Seri Idris Haron, governor of Malacca, said on April 14 that the state government had allowed two local companies to excavate according to the strict regulations of the Malacca Museum Association.
According to Mr. Idris, rumors about treasure on the island appeared many centuries ago and many people tried every way to get inside the cave, including using explosives to break the rocks outside. Locals believe that the cave is protected by curses and spirits. 30 years ago, a group of people were said to have entered the cave but returned empty-handed in a dreamy state. The Star newspaper (Malaysia) wrote that after regaining consciousness, they said they saw more than 80 chests of gold in the cave.
According to the agreement with the government, the two companies agreed that if found, the treasure will be used for the benefit of the people. To date, workers have used high-tech equipment to drill in several places to find a way into the cave.
Pulau Nangka Island is a famous tourist and pilgrimage destination with many ancient temples, wells and mausoleums.
