Canadian 2 gold nugget weighs 34.7 kg

Canadian 2 weighed 1,224 ounces (34.7 kg), found at Canadian Gully (photo taken in 1850), Ballarat in January 1863. Together with Canadian 3, it was valued at about $1.2 million.

Great Triangle gold nugget 36.2 kg

Great Triangle.

The Great Triangle is the largest gold nugget discovered in Russia. Explorer Nikofor Syutkin mined this nugget at Miass in the Ural Mountains around 1842, weighing 1,277 ounces (36.2 kg). It is currently on display at the Kremlin Armory, Moscow.

Canaa gold nugget weighs 40.5 kg

Canaa.

The second largest gold nugget of the same name, weighing 1,430 ounces (40.5 kg), was found during the gold rush in Brazil’s Serra Pelada in the early 1980s.

As with other large gold pieces discovered, Canaa 2 is now on display at the Banco Central Museum in Brasilia.

Lady Hotham gold nugget 44.7 kg

Lady Hotham, after whom the block of gold is named.

Named after the wife of Victorian Governor Charles Hotham, Lady Hotham was discovered by a group of nine miners in Canadian Gully, Ballarat in September 1854 during the Victorian gold rush.

This block of gold weighs 1,576 ounces (44.7 kg) and is worth the equivalent of 1.8 million USD at today’s prices.

Monumental gold nugget 48.1 kg

Monumental

This is the largest gold nugget discovered in America and was named Monumental. Weighing in at 1,696 ounces (48.1 kg), Monumental was discovered by five explorers in August 1869 on the Monumental Claim in Sierra County, California.

Not long after, this piece of gold was sold to Robert B. Woodward – a wealthy hotel owner in San Francisco.

Precious gold nugget 48.7 kg

Precious.

Like Kum Tow, the Precious gold block was found at Catto’s Paddock, Berlin (now Rheola), Victoria, Australia and was discovered by a Chinese explorer.

Excavated in January 1871 and named after real estate owner Precious C. Williams.

Blanche Barkly gold nugget 49.4 kg

A stele engraved with the fact that the Blanche Barkly gold block was discovered on August 27, 1857.

In August 1857, a group of Scottish explorers led by Charles Napier discovered the Blanche Barkly gold block at Kingowner, Victoria. This gold nugget was honorably named after the daughter of the colonial Governor, and was transported to London and displayed at the Crystal Palace.

Later, Blanche Barkly was sold to the Bank of England for 12,000 pounds, equivalent to 1.7 million USD (1.3 million pounds) today. It was also minted into 1000 Soviet coins (formerly British gold coins).

Leg of Mutton/ Canadian gold nugget 60.8 kg

The largest solid gold nugget discovered at Canadian Gully, Ballarat during the Victorian Gold Rush.

Leg of Mutton, also known as Canadian, was found on the first day of 1853 at a depth of 18.3 m underground.

Weighing 2,144 ounces (60.8 kg), it was subsequently sold publicly.

Canaa 1 gold nugget weighs 60.8 kg

The largest nugget of gold remaining on Earth, Canaa was the largest block of gold mined during Brazil’s Serra Pelada gold rush in the early 1980s.

Valued at $2.6 million, it is now on public display alongside smaller gold blocks of the same name and differently numbered numbers at the Banco Central Museum in Brasilia.

RNC Minerals 2 gold nugget weighs 63 kg

Not pure gold because it was mixed inside, this giant gold-encrusted rock was discovered in September 2018 at the RNC Beta Hunt mining mine near Kambalda, Eastern Australia.

Valued at $2 million, this impressive slab is said to contain about 1,600 ounces (45.6 kg) of pure gold.

Welcome gold nugget 69 kg

The largest gold nugget discovered in the Ballarat gold mining district, Australia, the Welcome gold block was unearthed by a group of miners from Cornwall, England in June 1858.

It sold for $1.7 million. Like Blanche Barkly, this giant block of gold is displayed at the Crystal Palace, London. However, in the end, it was sold by the British Treasury (Royal Mint) and melted down to mint thousands of sovereigns.

RNC mining workers have unearthed a gold-encrusted rock that is even larger than the one at Western Australia’s Beta Hunt mine found in September 2018.

This nugget weighs about 3,327 ounces (95 kg), containing about 2,400 ounces (68 kg) of pure gold worth 3 million USD.

Welcome Stranger gold nugget 99.9 kg

Welcome Stranger.

The magnificent Welcome Stranger nugget, the oldest of all pure gold, was found by British explorers John Deason and Richard Oates in February 1869 at Moliagul in Victoria, Australia.

Weighing approximately 3,524 ounces (99.9 kg), this giant nugget was broken into three pieces and then melted.

Holtermann gold nugget 290 kg

Holtermann.

The largest block of gold found on this planet is Holtermann. Excavated by German explorer Bernhardt Holtermann in October 1872 at Hill End, New South Wales, Australia.

This block of gold and quartz weighs 10,299 ounces (290 kg).
