According to hansonsauctioneers, Paul Wood, 64, is an amateur metal detector enthusiast from Dorset. Recently, Paul found an ancient ring under a thick layer of mud while metal detecting in Oxfordshire. On November 26-27, this yellow and intricately engraved ring will be auctioned by Hansons Auctioneers. This company values the ring at about 10,000 pounds (300 million VND).
The ring dates from the 16th – 18th centuries, and is believed to have belonged to the Skynner family, a very influential family in Oxfordshire at that time.
“I started metal detecting in the 1970s. This was the discovery of a lifetime for me. I have found many ring fragments before, but I have never seen anything as intact as this. The ring does not exist. no blemishes,” Paul said.
Paul also found many medallions of the Skynner family and belongings of people who emigrated to England in the 11th century.
The area where Paul found the ring was originally land that was sold in August 2016 to build housing. Paul’s group was allowed to scout the land before construction began.
