This train mysteriously disappeared while on its way from Hungary to Germany in 1945.
According to PTI on September 21, a Pole and a German who specializes in treasure hunting said they had found the train’s location near Ksiaz castle, Walbrzych city (Poland), and wanted to claim it. 10% of the value of assets on board.
“Lawyers, the army, the police and the fire brigade are handling the case. The area has never been excavated before and we don’t know what we might find” – Markia Tokarska, an association employee Walbrzych city council, said.
The train in question is a 150m long armored train, carrying many guns, gold, gems and other valuable items, including paintings with an estimated value of up to 200 million USD.
According to the website Wiadomosci Walbrzyskie (Poland), the amount of gold on this train could be up to 300 tons.
It is said that when surrounded by the Soviet Red Army at the end of World War II, the Nazis loaded gold and other treasures onto a train and hid it.
The train was said to have disappeared near the city of Breslau, East Germany at that time – the city of Wroclaw in Poland today. The train reportedly entered a tunnel near Ksiaz castle in the Lower Silesia mountains and disappeared from there. The tunnel was then closed and forgotten.
