7. The gold treasure in the shipwreck disappeared

The luxury steamship SS Islander filled with gold sank to the bottom of the ocean in 1901 and was recovered in 2012. However, according to the Dallas Morning News, no treasure was discovered on the ship. The Mars expedition team believes that the gold may have fallen to the seabed during the salvage process because they saw dust and a few pieces of gold left in the wreck. Mars estimates the value of the mysterious treasure to be more than $250 million and they are planning the next expedition to find them. Today, you can see part of the SS Islander on the shore of Admiralty Island and the rest in Seattle.

Many people say that the Antilla ship filled with gold of the German army sailed along the North Sea to surrender to the allies due to defeat in World War II. However, before docking, the captain ordered the ship and its huge assets to be sunk to the bottom of the ocean instead of letting them fall into the hands of others, Boston Globe reported. Locals call Antilla a ghost ship.

Some rumors say that, after robbing money and gold from a train car, the Apache Indians hid their loot in a cellar on Mount Winchester, Arizona, USA. Currently, according to the Houston Chronicle, many people participate in the search for missing treasure to try their luck despite stories that they may suffer curses from the deceased.

Legend has it that in 1869, a group of sailors traveled along the White River and got lost in the White Mountains canyon, western New Mexico state, USA. Here, they discovered gold ore flowing from a stream in the canyon, the Arizona Republic reported. However, the Apache natives attacked and brutally killed them. Only one man named Adams escaped. Adams once returned to the canyon to find the mysterious gold treasure but he never saw it again.
11. Alpine Fortress – Where Hitler’s treasure was hidden
At the end of 1943, SS commander Heinrich Himmler planned to build a backup base for the Nazi army. The fortress position, called Alpenfestung (Alpine) in German, is located in the southern mountains of Germany and borders Austria. However, Hitler did not support this plan.

However, towards the end of the war, Allied intelligence revealed that many Nazi officials had evacuated to a fortified area in southern Germany.
Nazi propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels spread many rumors about the Alpine fortress. This move was intended to distract allied troops about the situation of the Nazi government.
Alpine fortress is said to contain a huge treasure trove of supplies, weapons, and jewelry such as diamonds and gold bars. After decades of war, rumors still claim that the Alpine fortress was one of Hitler’s huge treasures.
Many rumors confirm that this is where treasure worth more than 1 million USD is kept. Since then, the mountains in southern Germany have become a search destination for treasure hunters.
12. Treasure of 5,000 billion USD on the Awa Maru ship
The Japanese ocean liner Awa Maru was built and operated by Nippon Yusen Kaisha. During World War II, this shipping company lost a ship of the Japanese navy. It is worth mentioning that the ship was converted to use instead of carrying passengers, it was requisitioned for combat.
Many rumors say that the ship hides a treasure worth up to 5,000 billion USD including gold, platinum and diamonds.
In 1945, when the Imperial Japanese army gradually lost power and surrendered to its allies, the ship Awa Maru was responsible for transporting hundreds of Japanese military personnel, diplomats and civilians from Singapore back to Japan.
But late at night on April 1 while sailing from Singapore, the ship was stopped by the US navy in the Taiwan Strait. The US Navy ship USS Queenfish mistook Awa Maru for a destroyer even though it was only serving relief purposes. Queenfish then attacked and sank Awa Maru with a salvo of torpedoes. Of the 2,400 passengers on board, only 1 person survived.
Before the trip, many observers said the ship was loaded with treasure and contraband from Singapore. Many rumors say that the ship hides a treasure worth up to 5,000 billion USD including gold, platinum and diamonds. Japan later asked the US to pay 52.5 million USD in compensation for the sinking of the Awa Maru ship but did not mention that the ship contained treasure.
